In what ways do we expect to hear Godbut fail to do so when we neglect to "go up toHim"? How can we be more faithful at doing so?We tail to go to God seeking His will and direc-tion because often we feel as if we know what isbest for our lives. Yet we still expect God's ap-proval of what we've decided to do! Our feelingis often that we can handle things on our own, sowhy should we bother God with these things? As long as He isn't interfering in what we are doing, then that's the same as having His approval—sowe think. A regular period of quiet devotions and Biblereading is invaluable. During one of these dailyquiet times, try this: invite God to put a halt toyour plans if those plans don't fit His will. Anddon't be surprised when He honors your request! 2.History reveals that God is the provider, sustainer, and protector of His people. In whatways has God carried you and your church "oneagles' wings"? God has been faithful at providing for His peo-ple all those things necessary for eternal life. Godhas sustained us through good and bad, in sick-ness and grief, as well as in joys and victories.God has protected on through storms, in travel, and many ways that we simply take for granted. We also look at the way missionaries in diffi-cult places are protected and provided for byGod. Even when martyrdom occurs, the result ismore growth of the church. The attacks of Satanand the ravages of war have not been enough tostop the church. 3. From Genesis 4:7 to Revelation 22:19, Scripture is filled with the conditional word if. Inwhat ways do people sometimes bypass the ifs ofGod's Word? Why? For some, there is a false understanding ofgrace. Paul spoke of this in Romans 6:1 when heasked. "Shall we continue in sin, that grace mayabound?" At other times Christians want to jus-tify their sin. Them is the desire to be able to sinand not have to accept personal responsibility forit. It is imperative to remember the teaching ofScripture: "Not every one that saith unto one, The "surely God would not " line of thinking is a very dangerous way of predicting howGod will and won't react to our sin. This mode ofthought often can be traced to ignoring (inten-tionally or unintentionally) the ifs of Scripture. 4.What are some ways that you fulfill yourpriestly role as God intends? What will interferewith your priestly service? Priests are a select and special group. We aresacred, set apart for God. This means that asChristians we are a special people to God. FirstPeter 2:5 states that Christians are a holy priest-hood. Our task is to live holy lives that reflect theholiness of God. Without holiness as a backdrop, our priesthood won't meats much. First Peter 2:9states that we as Christians are a royal priest-hood. As royalty we represent the spiritual king-dom in which we live. Our king, who grants onour royal position, expects holiness because Heis holy (1 Peter 1:15, 16). A job of priests is to offer sacrifices to God.These sacrifices include our time and our fi-nances. We intercede with one another in prayer. As priests we recognize that we are to be livingsacrifices, holy and acceptable unto God (Ro-mans 12:1). We fulfill the role of priests when werecognize that we are not our own but that webelong to God. 5.Telling the trolls, the whole truth, andnothing but the truth is not always appreciated. In what ways do preachers and teachers fail totell "all the words of the Lord"? In what waysdo people close their ears to these words of truth? Those who preach the gospel may, at times, fail to teach the whole truth out of fear of losing ajob. In Sunday school classes teachers may avoidtouching sensitive or controversial issues for fearof creating dissension. On the other handchurches have been known to tie the hands ofpreachers and teachers by telling them to stayaway from certain topics that "hit too close tohome." Is our church guilty in any of these areas?
