Sunday School on Joshua Activity

Into the Lesson

As students arrive, offer each a choice: either apencil or a penny. After all have made choices, say, "I'm going to show you both sides of sixcards. Pick one letter of the two from each cardand write it down. When we're finished, we'll seeif anyone has a key word from today's study." Be-fore class prepare six large cards with the follow-ing pairs of letters front and back: A, C (card 1); K,H (card 2); 0, S (card 3); D, 0 (card 4); S, T (card5): E. Y (card 6). Show the cards in the ordergiven. Make certain all students see both sides. After you have revealed all six cards and eachstudent has chosen six letters, ask, "Does anyonesave the six letters that—taken in sequence—spell the key word?" (The word is CHOOSE.) If noone has the word, ask, "Does anyone think he orshe knows what the word is?" After the word hasbeen revealed, comment on the choice each student had at the beginning: one choice was criticalto success while the other was inconsequential.
