Noah Sunday School Lesson Topic Discussion

1.With blessings come responsibilities! What are some of the responsibilities that you andyour church have received because of the bless-ings available in Christ? How well are you liv-ing up to these?

The responsibilities revolve around the samewords given to Noah in verse 1. Christiansshould be fruitful, bearing the fruit of the Spiritin their lives. The world needs to are us livingout love, joy, peace, etc. (Galatians 5:22, 23). It isalso our task to multiply ourselves in Christ byreaching others with the message of the gospel(Matthew 28:19, 20). When we do, we replenishthe kingdom of God on earth, ensuring that thechurch continues into the next generation.

2."Into your hand" reflects the earlier part ofGenesis, where God gave humanity dominionover the world. What are some ways thisresponsibility has been misused? How can wedo better?

Dominion means that God has invited us intopartnership in caring for the earth. Responsibletreatment of God's creation is necessary in thisregard. Abuse of animals for the sheer pleasure ofit (example: cockfighting) is a misuse of responsi-bility. Hunting animals to extinction (example:the passenger pigeon) is a detriment to all. Over-fishing of the seas is a known problem. Pollutionis a festering issue in some areas.

God's invitation to exercise dominion stillstands. Ask your class to brainstorm ways to dothis in a God-honoring way.

3. How can Christians take the lead in pro-moting the sanctity of innocent life?

God values life and expects us, the crown ofHis creation, to do the same. Yet the horrors ofthe Nazi gas chambers, the genocide in Rwanda, and the taking of the lives of millions of the un-born demonstrate a failure to honor life.

There are many paths to a solution. Churchescan become actively involved in local crisis preg-nancy centers and other organizations that seekto provide help and counsel to those who areconsidering abortion.

Supporting governmentalefforts to stop tyrannical regimes is another ave-nue. Caring for senior citizens and helping them face the end of life are roles that the church andthe individual Christian should embrace.
These are just a few ways to demonstrate ourconcern (and God's concern) for life. Expect awide-ranging discussion.

4.God is a maker and keeper of covenants! What are some covenants we make that weoften fail to honor? How can we do better? Whatwill be the result if we don't?

God expects His people to keep their cove-nants, their agreements, and their promises (Mat-thew 23:16-22). When we make any pledge. vow,or promise, we are making a covenant. Thatmeans that when we sign a contract to purchasea house or car, we live up to that by making thepayments in a timely way. When we take a job,we are making a contract with our employer togive an honest day's work for the pay we receive. The marriage covenant is also to be kept. Thewords "till death shall separate us" are words ofcommitment.

Unfortunately, Christians often are not all thatdifferent from non-Christians in keepingcovenants. The divorce rate of Christians and non-Christians is about the same. Yet breaking covenants by declaring bankruptcy, get-ting a divorce, etc., should not be embraced tooquickly, if at all. Credit and marriage counselingare available. Your church can have ministriesthat honor God in both of these areas.

5.When we see the rainbow, we rememberGod's promise not to destroy the world againwith water. Why not use the rainbow to remindus of God's other promises as well? The nexttime you look at a rainbow, what other promis-es of God will you remember?

God has promised in His Word that He willnever leave nor forsake His people. He haspromised that He will not allow any temptationto come upon us that will be too much for us tobear. God has promised that when we are faith-ful in our stewardship He will open up the flood-gates of Heaven and pour out a blessing. Theultimate promise God has made is that if we arefaithful to Him until death, He will give to us thecrown of life.
