The Story of David and Bathsheba

2 Samuel 11:1-26

King David was a very great kingbecause he loved God so much. Oneday, though, David stopped puttingGod first in his life.

Instead, he chose to go to bed witha married woman. This was againstGod's rules. The woman's name wasBathsheba. She was the wife of Uriahthe Hittite. He was one of David'smost trusted soldiers.

When David found out thatBathsheba was carrying his baby, hefelt desperate. All he wanted to do wascover up his wrong.

David had his general send Uriah towhere the fighting was the worst. Thenthe general was supposed to pull therest of his troops back so Uriah couldbe killed by the enemy.

reached Bathsheba, she cried and cried for many days. She had loved herhusband. She felt very hurt by all thathad happened.

Some time after Uriah's death, Davidsent a message to Bathsheba. Hewanted her to become his wife.Bathsheba went to the palace. Shemarried David. A few months latertheir baby boy was born.

David and Bathsheba may havebeen glad they had a son, but God wasnot happy. He knew David had done awicked thing. David could not hidefrom God. David had not only takenanother man's wife, he had killed herhusband!

So the Lord sent His prophetNathan to see David. Nathan toldDavid, "The Lord says, because youhave done this thing, your sons willfight each other and this child willdie."

David hung his head. The Lord'swords pierced his heart like a sword.He knew God was right. The wronghe had done could never be kept secretfrom God. David said, "I'm so sorry,Lord. I should never have done thiswrong thing."

The baby did die. But a year laterDavid and Bathsheba had a secondson. They named this boy Solomon.He was a very special boy. Solomonhad been chosen by God to becomethe wisest man who ever lived.
