Ten Virgin Lamp Oil Bible Story

Matthew 25:1-13

It will be very important to be readywhen the end of the world comes. Toshow His disciples this, Jesus toldthem a story. "There once were tenbridesmaids. They were supposed tobe ready to welcome the bridegroom.They were part of a wedding party."Five of these girls were carelessand five were wise. All ten girls weresupposed to wait along the roadsidefor the bridegroom to come home.When the bridegroom passed by, theywould light his way with the lampsthey held.

"The five foolish girls should haveknown they would need extra oil/—They had brought only enough/oil tofill their lamps once. Each of the wisegirls, however, had brou't plenty ofextra oil.

"They waited and waited allevening, but thebirp‘room did notcome. They all fe asleep because itwas so late. Suddenly there was ashout, 'Theliridegroom is coming!Light,y6ur lamps!'

"The wise bridesmaids lit theiramps. But the foolish girls had used/up all their oil a long time ago.

" 'Can we borrow some of your oil?'they asked the wise girls.

"They just shook their heads. 'No.There would not be enough for all ofus. Go and see if you can buy somefrom the shop.' The other girls ran as

fast as they could to buy some moreoil. But while they were gone, thebridegroom arrived.

"Those who were ready, went inwith him to the wedding feast. Thedoor was locked. When the other girlscame back from the shop, they weretoo late.

" 'Open the door,' they called out.`Bridegroom, let us in, please.'

"But the bridegroom said, 'I don't

know you. Go away.' Let this be alesson then," Jesus said to Hisdisciples.

He was teaching them that somedaytime would run out. No one couldafford to say, "I'll change tomorrow."Time is not the sort of thing you canborrow from other people. If you waittoo long to do something, then it is toolate. Now is the time to make thechoice for or against Jesus. Don't waituntil tomorrow.
