Story of Stephen Being Stoned from the Bible

Acts 6:1-7:60

More and more people believed whatthe apostles were teaching. Theywanted to find out about Jesus. Theyhad chosen to follow Him. They hadput Him first in their lives. As thishappened, though, some practicalproblems came up. One problem wasmaking sure some of the widowsreceived their fair share of food.

The apostles chose seven men totake care of the problem. This gavethe apostles more time to talk topeople about Jesus. All seven of thesemen were full of faith and the HolySpirit. One of them was calledStephen. He was very close to God.He did his job very well and Godworked miracles through him.

There were some men who tried toargue with Stephen. They could not.There was no way they could matchthe wisdom of God's Spirit. These badmen found some people to lie aboutStephen.

"Stephen has said bad things about Moses and God." Before long, moreand more people joined the religiousleaders. They made sure Stephen wasarrested.

He was brought before a court.Stephen was not even a little worried.His face shone like an angel's. Thereligious leaders did not care if Stephen had never done anythingwrong. They tried everything theycould to get him in trouble. Theybrought in people who lied aboutStephen. This is what they did whenJesus was on trial, too. They twistedthe words he had spoken about Jesus.This was very wrong, of course.

Stephen was filled with the HolySpirit. God's Spirit helped Stephenknow what he should say and when.He answered all their questions withgreat wisdom. Finally he said, "Youhave chosen not to listen to what Godwants. Didn't your fathers try to killthe prophets? Now look at you! Youhave killed the Messiah. He came tosave you!"

The religious leaders were furious.Stephen looked up. He saw Jesussitting next to God the Father inheaven. He said, "Look, I see the sky opening up. There is the Son of Man!"He pointed upwards.

The crowd went crazy. They covered their ears and rushed atStephen. They drove him out of thecity. Then they threw stones at him.He fell to his knees and cried out,"Lord Jesus, take my spirit! Lord,don't hold this against these people!"Then Stephen died. He died a hero forJesus, a man of courage and wisdom.
