Children Bible Story - Paul and Silas

Acts 9:10-25; 14:1-22

Saul was blind when he arrived atDamascus. By the time he left, hecould see again, both in his eyes andheart. Saul became one of Jesus'strongest followers. He also changedhis name. Now he was called Paul.Paul traveled from village to village. He told people his story. He was areligious leader who had wanted tokill all Christians. Then God had methim and changed him. Jesus hadforgiven him. Paul wanted nothingmore than to tell people how Jesuscould change lives.

Sometimes Paul traveled withfriends. One of these was a mannamed Barnabas. Together they wentfrom city to city. They taught thesame things Jesus had taught.Sometimes they made friends andsometimes they made enemies.

In one place they met a man whohad never been able to walk. This manlistened to Paul with all his heart. Paulsaid, "Stand up!" The man jumped up and could walk! He was so happy, hestarted dancing!

Later, some Jews from Antioch told many people that Paul was evil. Theybeat him up. They threw rocks at Pauluntil they thought he was dead. Thenthey dragged him outside the city. While the disciples stood around hisbody, Paul got up and went right back into the city to preach, as if nothinghad happened!

One day, Paul and his friends healed a young girl. She was a slave who couldtell other people's fortunes. While she was sick, her masters had made a lotof money from this. When Paul made her better, her masters could not makeanymore money. They grew angry. Sothey grabbed Paul and Silas anddragged them to the police.

They lied about them and calledthem traitors. An angry mob beat upPaul and Silas. They threw the two men into prison. Paul and Silas hadtheir feet fastened between heavyblocks of wood. They were chainedand put under heavy guard.

They were chained in one position. They could not even move around alittle bit. Their backs ached from thebeating the guards had given them. Itlooked like a hopeless time for the twoapostles.

Paul and Silas did not give up. Theydid not complain. Instead, they sang!At about midnight, they sang andprayed, praising God. The otherprisoners listened to them. Suddenly, agreat earthquake shook the prison!

The cell doors swung open. Everyone's chains came undone.

The jailer woke up and saw all thedoors open. He drew his sword andwas about to kill himself. He thoughtall the prisoners had escaped. He knew

his punishment would be terrible. Paulcried out, "Don't hurt yourself! We'reall still here!"

The jailer called for lights. Herushed in and trembled with fear. He fell down before Paul and Silas. Thenhe led them out of the prison. Heasked, "Tell me, please, how do Ibecome a follower of your God?"

Paul and Silas said, "Believe in theLord Jesus and you will be saved."The jailer nodded.

Then he brought Paul and Silas tohis own home. There he washed theirwounds. The rest of the family listenedto Paul talk about Jesus. They wantedto become Christians, too. The jailerand his family were all baptized rightthere. Then they served a meal to theapostles. Everyone was filled with joybecause they knew what it meant tobelieve in God.
