Bible Story - Shepherds' Visit

Luke 2:8-17

During that first night when Jesus wasborn, a strange thing happened. In thenearby hills a group of shepherds sleptoutside. Suddenly, a loud noise wokethem and they sat up.

"Look!" one cried. He pointed tothe sky. The others looked up. Therewas a bright light, bigger than any star.It seemed to get bigger as it camecloser.

"Listen, listen, do you hear themusic?" The others stopped talkingabout the light in the sky and werequiet. Far away, but coming closer,they heard singing.

Then the whole sky was filled withlight. The shepherds saw an angelstanding in front of them. The angelsaid, "Do not be afraid. A Savior hasbeen born tonight. You will know it istrue when you see a baby in amanger."

Then suddenly, there were angels allaround the shepherds! The angels sang,"Glory to God in the highest, and onearth, peace to the men who pleaseHim." The angel music was soft, but itseemed to shake the very ground.The shepherds fell on their knees.They blessed God for letting them seeand hear such special things. When itwas dark again, they stared at eachother. "Was I dreaming?" one asked.No, they knew it was for real. Theshepherds gathered the sheep andheaded for Bethlehem.

As they neared the village, theynoticed the giant star was standing stillover a certain hillside. They saw acave there and noticed people inside.The shepherds went to look. Therewas the baby the angels had told themabout!

They knelt and worshiped Him asKing and Savior. Mary and Josephwatched. Mary knew she would neverforget that night.

A while later, Mary and Joseph hadsome very important visitors. Theywere wise men from faraway lands in

the east. They had seen the bright starin the night skies. They believedsomething great had happened. Sothey traveled a long distance. Theywent to King Herod in Jerusalem.

"We believe a King of the Jews hasbeen born. We saw His star in the east.We have come to worship Him," theysaid to Herod.

Herod knew nothing about Jesus'birth. He asked the religious leaders,"Where is the King of the Jewssupposed to be born?"

"In Bethlehem," they answered.They knew the answer because thatwas what the prophets had said many,many years earlier.
