Bible Story of Judas

Matthew 26:1-5

These were Jesus' last few days beforeHe was arrested. He spent much ofthat time with His disciples. He taughtthem, trying to help them understandwhat He had to do. The time hadcome for Jesus to make real all thewords the prophets had told aboutHim so long ago.

Jesus was not the only one preparing for His death. The chief priests and other religious leaders could think of nothing else. "We'll Him arrested without anyone noticing," they told themselves.

They also warned each other, "Wemust be careful not to do this duringthe Passover festival. There are a lot ofpeople who think He is the Messiah.They might cause us trouble if they seeJesus being arrested." There were still two days to go before the Passoverfestival.

The religious leaders plotted abouthow they would capture Jesus. A mannamed Judas Iscariot arranged to meetthem. They were very surprised."Judas is one of Jesus' special twelvefollowers!" one leader said.

"Not only that, Judas is the disciplein charge of all the money," anothersaid.

Judas met with them. He asked,"How much money will you give meif I hand Him over to you?"

The chief priests were delighted.They smiled and rubbed their handstogether. "We will pay you thirtypieces of silver." That was the price ofbetraying Jesus to His enemies.

From that day on, Judas watchedfor a chance to trap Jesus. He wouldnot have long to wait.

Two days after Judas made his deal,the Passover festival began. Thousandsof people had come to Jerusalem forthis.

On Thursday Jesus told Peter andJohn, "I want you to get everythingready for the Passover."

"But Teacher, where do You wantus to do this?"

He said, "Go into the city. Thereyou will meet a man carrying a jar ofwater. Follow him. Then go to theowner of whichever house this manenters. Tell the owner, 'The Teachersays His time has come. He would liketo bring His disciples and keep thePassover at your house.' "

Peter and John did as Jesus said.

When they approached the owner oithe house, he nodded. It was as if hehad known all along that Jesus wouldstay at his home. Together, they madesure there was enough food in thehouse.

The man showed Peter and John abig room upstairs. There was a large,low table. Jesus and His disciplescould share the Passover meal inprivate. It would be a meal like noother, one which would go down inhistory.
