Ascension of Jesus Christ
Mark 16:19-20
Jesus appeared several times to Hisdisciples after He rose from the dead.He worked miracles. He taught themto do 
all the things they had beenlearning about. A month after He diedand rose again, Jesus left earth andwent to heaven.
Jesus led His disciples outside ofJerusalem to Bethany. This was whereHis friends Lazarus, Martha andMary lived. All His followers werearound Him. He lifted His hands andblessed them. Then He told them to gostraight back to Jerusalem. Theyshould wait there for what the Fatherhad promised.
Jesus said, "John baptized withwater. You will be baptized with theHoly Spirit not many days from now.You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be My witnesses here and even to thefarthest corners of the earth."
Then, an amazing thing happened.
Jesus was taken up to heaven! He rose higher and higher until He disappeared into a cloud. The disciples looked at each other. They had see none miracle after another. Now this had been the greatest of all! Jesus,crucified then risen, now taken up toheaven to be with His Father.
Jesus' disciples stared at the sky.Then two men dressed in white cameand stood beside them. "Men ofGalilee, why are you looking into thesky? Jesus has gone from you intoheaven. He will come back again inthe same way He left."
They went back to Jerusalem full ofjoy. They went straight to the templeand sang praises to God. Somewondered about this place Jesus hadgone to, heaven. They remembered Hehad said, "Don't worry. Believe inGod, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many rooms. Soon I will go and make them ready foryou." And that is why Jesus wentback to heaven.
