Cat Training
Kittens and cats are naturally clean and fastidious animals. The majority will have been taught by their mothers where to go to the toilet, either in a litter box or a specific place otherwise the kitten may start to look elsewhere.
Do not use the same litter in the sanitary box and the sleeping box—this creates confusion. If you use shredded newspaper in the sleeping box, use shavings, sawdust, soil or commercial cat litter in the sanitary tray.
When you first bring the kitten home, put its sanitary tray near the sleeping box for a few days, gradually moving it away a short distance at a time.
If you want the kitten to learn to pass urine and faeces in the garden. gradually move the tray to an area outside. The next step is to put a small quantity of soiled litter in a cultivated area of the garden and to take the kitten to this spot after meals for a few days. If the odd accident occurs and you see it happen, don't knock the kitten or rub its nose in it, but chastise it firmly with your voice, and take it to the tray or the garden.
Kittens learn very quickly what is expected of them. It is most important if an accident occurs to clean it up carefully and to spray the area with a powerful deodorant, preferably something that has a smell totally obnoxious hold disinfectants. If you do this, the kitten will usually avoid the same spot.
If thehe spot is left uncleaned or half-cleaned, the kitten thinks that it is a toilet returns there. If the cat persistently offends inside the house, lock it aside for a couple of days and then gradually allow its return.
