More than one elderberry plant can becultivated by digging up the original and divid-ing the root mass into as many parts as youwant plants. Suckers growing from roots canbe dug and transplanted too.
Elderberries are popularly used in jamsand pies. Delectable wines are produced fromthe plant's fruits and flowers. The blossomsare also sometimes fried in batter and eatenlike fritters, and the berries are used to make adeep red dye. An elderberry hedge will growup to ten feet tall and produce showy andfragrant white blossoms; it is most attractiveboth to the property owner and to birds.
Flies are said to be repelled by the elder-berry's odor. The major known nuisance to theberry is the currant borer, which will burrowinto the hollow stems of the plant and causesome damage.
Adams #2 produces large fruit clustersand berries. Johns ripens in early August andyields vigorous growth.
