Ornamental Grass

Some of theannual and perennial grasseOlaye ornamentalvalue, when grown in single clumps:-They rangein height from a foot to ten feet and more. Thegraceful, arching stalks of the Pampas Grass ti-the Eulalia Grass make these excellent asconspicuous specimens. The fruit clusters ofSquirrel-tail Grass or Bristly Foxtail are mostinteresting, and remain on the plant in goodcondition for weeks. Or they are cut and dried, used for winter arrangements. Ribbon Grassand Zebra Grass are particularly interestingwith their striped leaves variegated with white.Blue Fescue (Fescuca ovina glauca) is used fromcoast to coast for its blue-green foliage and itslow, tufted habit of growth.

It is probably true that these are not usednearly enough in our gardens. The perennialsorts need practically no attention. One clump ofEulalia Grass that comes to mind as this isbeing written has been growing as a featuredplant in our garden for 20 years. It never hasany attention, merely is cut to the ground for thewinter and is evident throughout spring, summer and fall lending grace and beauty to theentire garden. These grasses should be usedmore than they are at present. Each one in thefollowing list is described in the alphabeticallisting in the main volume of this book.
